DAY 2:MASAI MARA

Full day game viewing coupled with exploring this spectacular Park. The Mara is the land of African legend: Lion are abundant throughout the park, as are the elephants, giraffes, and a variety of gazelle species and zebra. Cheetah and leopard are also regularly seen and, less commonly, rhino. The annual wildebeest migration, one of nature’s few remaining wildlife spectacles, occurs in the Mara from July to September where the big animals and their predators are to be present in abundance during the time frame of this trip. Several species of Bee-Eater, the flying rainbow that heads the list of the Mara’s birds, occur in the reserve. As well as wildlife, the Maasai Mara is also home to many members of the colorful Maasai tribe who may be seen around the borders of the park – Morans (warriors) loping across the plains, young boys herding goats, or elders grouped under a tree discussing matters of the day .A visit to a Maasai boma (homestead) reveals this outstanding culture and customs. All meals and overnight at the tented camp.

DAY 3:MASAI MARA / LAKE NAKURU

A last game run in the picturesque Maasai Mara in the morning through the Rift Valley drive to Lake Nakuru, a shallow alkaline lake in the Rift Valley, renowned for its spectacular flamingo population as one of the world’s greatest ornithological spectacles. Although Lake Nakuru is primarily a bird sanctuary, there are a considerable number of animals to be encountered, such as many large game animals such as zebras, elephants and gazelles, this is one of our best chances of seeing rhinos. Lake Nakuru National Park was the first place in Kenya selected as a rhino reserve. Here is one of the few places where we can see Rothschild’s giraffes. Dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru hotel.

BACKPACKERS SAFARI

Maasai Mara Game reserve is situated in south-west Kenya and is one of Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Reserves. Together with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania it forms Africa’s most diverse, incredible and most spectacular eco-systems and possibly the world’s top safari big game viewing eco-system.Made famous by the abundance of the big cats, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and the Great Wildebeest Migration and the Maasai people, well known for their distinctive custom and culture.

Day 1 Nairobi – Lake Naivasha

Depart from Nairobi n the morning from overland to papyrus-fringed Lake Naivasha, a cool and peaceful escape from Nairobi’s big-city bustle. With over 400 species of bird, this freshwater lake is a birding Paradise. Along the lake’s fabled waters, we are bound to see some of the area’s more intriguing species—hippos, giraffes, buffalo and even the arboreal colobus monkey. Lake Naivasha lies in the Great Rift Valley and the name derives from the local Maasai name Nai’posha, meaning “rough water” because of the sudden storms which can arise. hells gate

After lunch we visit Crescent island — a private sanctuary, where you can walk beneath yellow-barked acacias (yellow fever trees) in search of giraffes, wildebeest , impala , dikdiks, thompson’s and grant’s gazelles, elands, waterbucks and countless bird species. Oh, and there are some rather gigantic pythons too! We are allowed to walk with the animals since all were introduced during the filming of Out of Africa. An optional boat ride on the lake reveals many water bird species and schools of Hippos.Overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge or similar.Meal Plan: {Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner}

Day 2 Lake Naivasha ( Take a Day trip to Lake Nakuru National Park)

After a delicious breakfast, we travel overland to Lake Nakuru National Park for a full day game viewing experience. The spectacular alkaline Lake is famously known as the feeding ground of both lesser and greater flamingos. This National park, which is fenced all round is a sanctuary for birds, Rothschild giraffes and both black and white-rhinos. Other mammals in abundance include Waterbucks, Buffalos, Gazelles, Lions, Baboons and the elusive Leopards sometimes seen sleeping on the horizontal branches of the “Fever trees”. Lunch will be served at one of the lodges located in the game park, offering its own local specialties, served with fresh produce from the region Overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge or similarMeal Plan: {Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner}

Day 3 Lake Naivasha – Maasai Mara Game Reserve

After a leisure breakfast at Naivasha Sopa Lodge, depart overland to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve-jewel of Kenya’s Game Park. The Maasai Mara is Kenya’s finest and most outstanding wildlife sanctuary where gentle rolling grassland ensures animals are never out of sight. The climate is gentle, rarely too hot and well spread rainfall year round. The sensation of the great wildebeest migration between July and October is unparalleled. The wildlife is far from being confined within the Reserve boundaries and an even larger area extends beyond the game Reserve. Centuries of close association with the wildlife has resulted in an almost symbiotic relationship where wildlife and Maasai people live in peace with one another. LION

After lunch, explore the Reserve on a late evening ‘Spice’ game drive. No matter how much you have thought about Africa, this is more than you expected—the big five-Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Rhino and Cape buffalo are in abundance. Overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge or similarMeal Plan: {Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner}

Day 4 Explore Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Today we will be spending in the vast eco-system of the Mara searching for the big five and much more. You also have an optional balloon safari — Many call it a once in a life time experience, once you are up, you won’t want to come down, and once you land, champagne breakfast awaits you. Game viewing is great from the air with the opportunity for beautiful pictures. The annual wildebeest migration is expected in the Maasai Mara between July and early November. Millions of animals migrate to the Mara from Serengeti in search for fresh green pastures and water. It’s worth noting that every game drive is different from the other, and missing one is missing out on the fun.Overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge or similarMeal Plan: {Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner}

Day 5 Maasai Mara Game Reserve – Nairobivan in park

We enjoy an early breakfast and then we drive to Nairobi. We have lunch at the InterContinental Hotel. The rest of your afternoon is at leisure. You might take this opportunity to visit our local stores in down town Nairobi. The store displays items pertaining to Kenya cultural heritage, and offers unique carvings, artifacts, clothing and gem stones to augment and expand the experiences you’ve had on your visit. If you are returning home today, you have a day room available for the afternoon and dinner at the Hotel is included. Early in the evening, depart for home. MASAI MARA, NAKURU , NAIVASHA , AMBOSELLI , TSAVO

DAY 1, 2 AND 3
We shall drive from Nairobi to the Masai Mara National Park stopping for a picnic lunch on the way. We shall arrive in time for an evening game drive and some sight seeing before retiring for the night at the rhino campsite.
The wild life is far from confined within the reserve. The Thompson’s and Gant’s gazelle, topi, eland and many more species of the plain’s game offer a rich choice of food for the dominant predators: the lion, leopard and cheetah which hunt in this pristine wilderness In the Mara river be sure to catch the hippo or the seemingly drowsy crocodile waiting with subtle cunning for prey at which to strike at with lightning swiftness.

wildebeest migration
Ever heard of the great march of the wildebeest. it is estimated that more than half a million wildebeest enter the Mara and are joined by another 100,000 from the east of Mara, trekking to the Kenyan border.
There is nowhere on earth to compare this wildlife marvel. Driving in the midst of this herds is an unimaginable experience.

The next two days will be spent game viewing and sight seeing in this natural wonderland.

DAY 4 AND 5
We will leave the Mara and drive to Lake Nakuru National park.
Lake Nakuru , quite often referred to as the “pink lake” is world famous as the location of the greatest bird spectacle on earth – myriad of fuschia pink flamingos whose numbers are legion often more than a million maybe two.

flamingoes in nakuru

The lake is also rich in other bird life the most popular being the two fish eating birds, pelicans and cormorants.There are over 400 resident species on the lake. We shall spend the night in one of the lodges located near the park. The next day will start with a morning game drive followed by an optional nature walk in the afternoon. We will then leave the park and drive to Lake Naivasha where we will spend the night

DAY 6 AND 7
We shall leave Lake Naivasha and drive to the Amboseli National. This lies at the foot of the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. The snow capped peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro rising above a saucer of clouds dominates every aspect of the Amboseli.
The snows of the Mt. Kilimanjaro, white and crystalline form a majestic backdrop to one of Kenya’s most spectacular display of wildlife-lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, cheetah, buffalo and hosts of plain’s game creating Kenya’s most sought after photographer’s paradise.
The park is also the home of maasai, those tall proud nomads who have learned to live in complete harmony with the wildlife that surrounds them.

elephants in Amboselli
The next day will be spent game viewing around the Amboseli.

DAY 7 AND 8
Leave Amboseli for Tsavo National Park. The combined area of Tsavo East and West makes it one of the World’s largest game sanctuaries, even larger than the Wales in Great Britain.
We shall arrive in Tsavo West in time for an evening game drive. Chief amongst the marvels of this park is the Mzima Springs which forms a haven for rich wildlife pageant with the elephant soaking half immersed in the waters, the hippos apparently weightless, tiptoeing across the bottom, crocodiles basking at the bank or swirling through the water, gazelles, zebra and giraffe wandering around the banks through the thick acacias and raffia palms together with hundreds of chattering monkeys and birds.
Apart from the elephant population that also graces the park, there are many lions, some undoubtedly the descendants of the famous man eaters of Tsavo.
